HD Hyundai Heavy Industries secures additional U.S Navy Logistic Ship MRO Contract
HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) announced that its Naval & Medium Size Ships Business Unit has been awarded an additional contract for the maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) of a U.S. Navy logistics support vessel.HHI has secured the regular overhaul project for the U.S. Navy 7th Fleet’s 41,000-ton cargo replenishment ship USNS Cesar Chavez, the company said on January 7. The vessel, measuring 210 m in length, 32 m in beam, and 9.4 m in height, was commissioned in 2012. HHI will perform comprehensive maintenance at its Ulsan medium-ship yard, including hull and structural work, propulsion, electrical systems and over 100 detailed inspection and repair items. The ship is scheduled for delivery back to the U.S. Navy in March 2026. This follows HHI’s successful completion of the first U.S. Navy logistics MRO project on USNS Alan Shepard, which concluded at the end of last year. The Alan Shepard has since departed following final acceptance. Although the original scope of work covered approximately 60 items, over 100 additional tasks were identified and completed during execution, reflecting HHI’s responsive project management and technical capability. A U.S. Navy representative commented,“We are highly satisfied with the timely delivery and exceptional quality of the revitalized Alan Shepard.
