HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Makes History at U.S. and Southeast Asia Defense Expos
HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HD HHI) is making a bold dual push into the global naval defense market this week, participating simultaneously in the United States' and Southeast Asia's largest maritime defense exhibitions.
HD HHI, in partnership with LIG D&A, has set up a 150 m² joint exhibition booth at Sea Air Space (SAS) 2026 — the largest maritime defense expo in the United States — becoming the first Korean company ever to exhibit at the event. The four-day show, running April 19–22 in Washington D.C., is expected to draw over 16,000 visitors from 430 defense companies across 57 countries. The booth showcases scale models of the company's independently developed naval platforms:
Simultaneously, HD HHI is participating in Defense Services Asia (DSA) 2026, Southeast Asia's largest defense exhibition, held April 20–23 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The company will display advanced naval platforms aligned with Malaysia's mid-to-long-term fleet modernization program, including a multi-purpose support ship optimized for large-scale amphibious operations and disaster relief, as well as littoral mission vessels suited for coastal patrol and maritime security roles.
Malaysia's Royal Navy is currently pursuing a comprehensive fleet restructuring plan, making the timing of HD HHI's participation particularly strategic.
The back-to-back exhibitions reflect HD HHI's accelerating push to position itself as a leading exporter of Korean naval defense platforms. The company is targeting both established Western markets — represented by its U.S. debut — and fast-growing emerging markets in Southeast Asia.
